Doug Liman’s Edge of Tomorrow Edge (Live Die Repeat) hit the theater on May 28, 2014, and fans have longed to see more of its majestic storyline since. The science fiction action film starring Tom Cruise and Emily Kund is based on a 2007 Japanese novel Kill All You Need by Hiroshi Sakurazaka. The film revolves around an incident of a fictional alien invasion of Earth. Fans loved what they saw and stopped asking for a sequel to the film.
Edge of tomorrow 2
Director Doug Liman, in 2016 talked to Collider after he signed on to direct the sequel in April 2016 and said:
[The sequel] would revolutionize how people make sequels. […..] It is a sequel that’s a prequel.
In May 2017, it was revealed that the title of the upcoming sequel would be Live Die Repeat and Repeat. It was also reported that both the lead actors Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt would return to reprise their roles. In 2018 the film was queued to be Liman’s next work, but it was delayed due to problems in time coordination between the cast and the crew.
Later in October 2019, The Hollywood Reporter got the confirmation by Liman that the script has been finished and rewritten by Matthew Robinson.
On January 15, 2020, Doug posted a picture doing the pre-production work of the sequel with the caption, “How many whiteboards is too many? #LiveDieRepeat2 “on his Instagram handle.
So finally, with a sigh of relief, it can be said that the film is in the making. Due to the worldwide CoViD’19 Outbreak, the production will be delayed again, but we can expect the movie to be in the theaters by 2021.
Who Will Return for Edge of Tomorrow 2
The male and female protagonists Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt will be returning in the sequels for the same roles as Cage and Rita. Liman also hinted for a new character who will “steal the show.”
With no revelations about the storyline, it can’t be predicted that the whole cast will come back as the news story might be about a completely different event too. With the demise of William Paxton in 2017, the actor who played Master Sergeant Farell in the movie, the character is not expected to return for the sequel.
