The 2013 American apocalypse action thriller World War Z 2, directed by Mark Forster, got under the skin of everyone worldwide as the film released on June 21, 2013. With its excellent story, production, and performances by the actors, the film has genuinely made fans crave a sequel. The film stars Brad Pitt in the lead role of Jarre Lane, who fights for the entire world against a sudden zombie apocalypse. With a full-fledged horror thriller like this, it’s obvious to ask for more about it.
Will World War Z 2?
Unfortunately, the hype will not calm us all as it is confirmed that the film will not be renewed for a sequel.
Before the release of Part 1 in 2012, the director and production company stated that they see World War Z 2 as a trilogy. After the grand reception of the first film, Paramount said that a sequel would come soon. In 2015, it was announced, along with director Juan Bayna and writer Steven Knight, that the film would hit theaters on June 9, 2016.
But it was short-lived as reported by Variety in 2014 that Juan had pulled himself out of the project, and David Fincher had entered the frame to direct the film. Thus, the release was postponed until 2018 or 2019. Filming was finally set to begin in the fall of 2016 with Brad Pitt coming back for his role. Still, due to mismanagement of time, Finch was jam-packed for his film for his television series Mindhunter and Brad in Hollywood. Once on time, producers again postponed production for June 2019.
However, in February 2019, the film was canceled after several months of pre-production and staffing for principal photography in five countries. The Chinese government’s ban on all films featuring zombies or ghosts is held to be the main reason behind this big call. Also, some budget issues occurred as constraints.
So I’d say if you had any hopes for the sequel, you have to move on now!
World War Z: Cast & Plot
Brad Pitt was signed as the lead role of Garry Lane for the movie. Mireille Enos played the role of Karin Lane, Garry’s significant other. It was also said that both the actors would be returning for the sequel, but we all know that this is not possible anymore!
Among the other cast was Daniella Kertesz as Segen, James Dale as Captain Speke, Ludi Boeken as Jurgen Warmbrunn, Fana Mokoena as Thierry Umutoni and many others as the supporting cast.
In the movie, we saw Garry Lane trying to figure out the source of the plague that had caused a worldwide zombie apocalypse. He, with the others, eventually finds out that the infected do not further bite seriously injured or terminally ill people as they don’t fit as appropriate hosts. Thus, he injects himself with an unknown pathogen to test the theory. Losing a lot of his team members en route, he finally saves the survivors by injecting them with a pathogen.
The film is filled with drama, thrill, and intense action sequences. Although it didn’t do well with the critiques, it appeared like a shining star at the Box Office and became the highest-grossing zombie film of all time.
It’s utterly unfortunate that we won’t be able to see a sequel, but the memory of the first one will always remain indestructibly attached to our minds.
