From stunning crowns to engagement rings and diamond earrings, Kate Middleton has worn an array of jewelry pieces from Princess Diana’s collection. As the wife of Diana’s oldest son Prince William, Kate appears to have unlimited access to her collection. Although Kate is never shy about showcasing Diana’s early pieces, does Meghan Markle own any of Diana’s jewelry?
Kate Middleton rocks Prince Diana’s engagement ring
One of the first pieces from Diana’s collection that Kate publicly displayed was her engagement ring.
In 2010, William raised a big question while the couple was enjoying a romantic vacation in Africa. The engagement ring was, in fact, the same ring Prince Charles had given Diana while proposing.
According to the Express, Charles paid about $ 24,000 for the ring back in the day. It is now estimated to be well over $ 300,000.
Once Prince William and Kate Middleton exchanged vows in 2011, they gifted her with a pair of sapphires and diamond earrings that also belonged to her mother.
The Queen of Cambridge has worn engagement rings and earrings during many royal engagements over the years. Once William sits on the throne, his access to the royal family’s jewelry collection will become even more significant.
What is Kate’s favorite piece from Princess Diana’s collection?
Apart from her engagement ring, there is another piece of jewelry Kate owes over the rest. One of the more expensive things Kate has worn over the past decade is Diana’s Cambridge Lover crown.
Lover’s knot is a stunning crown with 19 diamond arches and the same number of pearls, all set in silver and gold structures.
Eddie Le Vian, an expert in jewelry, estimates that the lover knot crown is about 45 carats in a diamond. The crown is valued somewhere around $ 3 million, although it could probably fetch well over $ 25 million in an auction.
Kate Middleton has worn a lover’s knot crown on several occasions. For example, in December of 2019, Kate shook it during a diplomatic reception at Buckingham Palace.
She was first seen wearing it during an Australian tour and has obviously fallen in love with it ever since.
What about Meghan Markle?
Although Meghan has not worn as many pieces of Diana as Kate, she does own some pieces from her collection.
For example, Meghan’s engagement ring is directly related to Diana. Prince Harry allegedly designed a diamond ring out of Diana’s vault, giving it a special place in the heart of the Duke of Sussex.
Levien shared, “Prince Harry chose a trilogy engagement ring for Meghan, with a center stone from Botswana and two diamonds on either side that came from her late mother Princess Diana’s jewelry collection.
An interesting side note about engagement rings is that Harry had the Diana engagement ring after his tragic death. He presented the ring to William so that he could propose to Kate Middleton in 2010.
If Harry had met Meghan before William and Kate tied the knot, then the Duchess of Sussex would be wearing her late mother’s ring. This did not happen, of course, although it is unclear if Harry ever regrets giving the ring away.
Kate Middleton Dons Old Ring
Although Kate loves her engagement ring, she has been wearing another piece of jewelry on her fingers in recent months. Royal guards have noticed that Kate has been wearing her old citrine ring for a long time.
Kate first wore the ring in 2002 but stopped wearing it after being engaged. It is considered to be worth anywhere between $ 5,000 and $ 20,000.
We have no idea why Kate Middleton has started wearing the ring once again, but it may have something to do with all the drama that has unfolded before the royal family over the past few months. As a stone, citrine is believed to represent optimism and to help in decision making.
