24-year-old singer Troye Sivan called an interviewer on Twitter to ask what he deemed inappropriate questions, including that he would use personal questions about Shawn Mendes as well as sex.
Troye Sivan became famous as a teenager in South Africa, where she posted videos of singing and vlogging on YouTube. The openly gay pop stars have the support of Taylor Swift and Sam Smith and have toured around the world. He has collaborated with Ariana Grande and Charli XCX among others and has a younger audience.
A fan posted about the interview on Twitter and asked “who is this interviewer is on the floor” and shared an image of the interview, which is in a New Zealand publication. He addressed the final questions, in which he was asked whether he was “top or bottom” (to which he replied “Definitely passing!”).
Troye Sivan twitted, “After that last question I thought about asking the interviewer about her full sex status, but then I remembered how wildly offensive, awkward and inappropriate it was that didn’t stop her. ! ” He joked, “Next time I’ll just do a Twitter Q&A.”
When another fan jokingly asked what his social security number was, he bluntly replied, “You sure you wouldn’t want to ask if I had a gay man or if I would like another guy and Like Grace ??? ” Referring to the interviewer.
Following Sivan’s criticism of the interviewer, many have weighed in on the matter, including LGBTQ + Publishing Out magazine; Who called Sivan “hypocritical” for his reaction. The initial article, which has since been altered and now features an editor’s note about the piece, was scoured and eventually retweeted by Troye Sivan, who said he was disappointed in the publication.
Out of Peace initially read, “It’s a bit hypocritical for Troye Sivan to act as if talking about her sex life is taboo when she wrote an entire album [Bloom] about speaking down. “So it was okay to tweet inflammatory things about sex. An album for publicity, but now it’s inappropriate.”
“Do the journalists in the queue have to follow the same dignified politics as the straight? Is Troye Sivan saying that if a fan asked him about the sediment in a Twitter Q&A, he harshly reprimanded them? This 2019, talking about anal sex should be taboo, especially in the queue media, “it ended.
Sivan addressed the piece and said, “Last I say this, but disappointing to see that @outmagazine, an LGBT publication, is the only one to miss the mark on reporting this.”
Sivan clarified, “First, Bloom is an album about love. I said that in every interview I did about the album. The suggestion that I made the whole album about bottoming made me over sexualizing.” + My work, and is reactive. “
“I talk about sex in my music on my own terms, when I’m in control, and writing music that’s going to be close to my heart forever. That’s why the flood doesn’t open the door + Give anyone a pass on basic etiquette and allow them to ask about the ins and outs of what I do in bed, “she continued.
“I highly doubt anyone who does anything in their relationship, no matter what their straight peers would ask any of the obvious questions about the content of their music. Sivan said I don’t think artists should ask about this. Should expect to leave when they show up to work in the morning.
Sivan also clarified, “There is no shame in anal sex or any kind of sex – I just don’t want to talk about it on the phone to a stranger. I love you guys and all the work.” You do, it just didn’t look like it was a fair take on it. “
After that, he said that he was talking about “[controversy] again [because] my parents read it all, and I feel weird.”
The piece has since been revised after feedback and is now an editor’s note that reads, “This piece has been the editorial team’s determination since its original publication time that it did not meet our standards.” Features have since been updated. We have summarized and revised that piece.
Initial interviews with New Zealand publications also touched on other topics. When asked if Shawn Mendes had his crush, he said, [yes…] “The interviewer went a step further, asking if his long-time male model boyfriend Jacob Bixenman would give him one [” hall pass] of Mendes. Along, who identifies as straight, and even asking if it was [“steamy” when Sivan met Mendes, to whom he said, “No, no, not at all!]”
Other questions also included asking him [“Arena or Taylor]” to which he replied, “This I cannot answer.” He is close friends with Grande and collaborated with her on ‘Dance to This.’
He’s also performed with Swift, joining her on her ‘Reputation’ tour to sing his single ‘My My My!’ onstage.
