Michael J. Fox will return to Louis Canning’s Emmy-nominated role in Good Fight Season 4. A recurring, often antagonistic character, Canning first appeared on Good Wife. Premiered on CBS in September 2009, the legal drama centres around Alicia Florrick (Julianna Margulies). The wife of the Cook County State Attorney, she goes back to her law career after a corruption scandal erupted involving her husband. This series, created by Robert and Michelle King, evolved from that simple premise. Remaining on air till 2014, Good Wife has been cited by critics for its memorable performance and incisive writing. This led to a spinoff, The Good Fight, which followed the supporting character of Diane Lockhart (Christine Baranski). As it heads into season 4, the spinoff is back on Alicia Florrick’s plans to bring some favourites from the world.
Good wife, especially in her early walks, placed a lot of emphasis on bit players. Essential characters like judges and protest lawyers, often short on other court shows, show-stealing when they appeared. Michael J. Fox was one of the play’s memorable recurring guests. FOX portrayed Louis Canning in the second season of the show. A lawyer with his firm, Canning suffers from a condition that causes irregular movements. He is not afraid to use this fact to his advantage, angling to earn sympathy from the judge and jury. Serving as a foil for both Florrick and Lockhart, Canning was well portrayed in more than 20 episodes of Good Wife.
According to Variety, the good fight about Fox is the bursting of Canning’s role for Season 4. Although the spinoff has its own identity, the good fight has brought back several notable characters from the original series, with a political tint praised by critics, which includes Lemond Bishop (Mike Colter). It also includes actors such as Matthew Perry, Kurt Fuller, Denis O Hare and Jason Biggs.
Known for pop culture mouse icons such as Marty McFly and Alex P Keaton, Fox noted in previous interviews that he appreciates the fact that his stint on Good Wife allowed him to play against type. The actor, who discovered Parkinson’s disease in 1992, suggested that he was disappointed with the portrayal of people with disabilities in films and television. Rather than just being a figure worthy of sympathy or kindness, Fox likes the fact that Canning was a fully realized person. It can be real. He can also be cutthroat and deceptive, resorting to underhanded tactics if it helps lead to victory.
The return of Louis Canning is just one of the events in store for Good Fight Season 4. Hugh Dancy is set for what appears to be a guest arc, as the spinoff will continue with its legal twists and turns to weave across social and political themes.
