CM Punk reveals the reason for not answering Dwayne Johnson’s phone during a post-WWE Raw show. Before coming to the present day, let’s take a look at what happened in 2017, which fueled controversy and misunderstanding.
Two years ago a controversial moment arose in WWE. Dwayne Johnson was filming a scene for his Seven Bucks production film affectionately known as “Rock,” “Fighting with My Family” in Los Angeles. On the post-RAW show, the crew was shooting a scene where Paige had to win over AJ Lee for the WWE Divas Championship. However, during filming fans in the studio, Chief Minister CM Punk started to chant the name of AJ Lee’s husband.
Seeing the harmonious cry for the former superstar, Johnson went on to give Punk a call in the middle of the show. But to the dismay of fans, Punk could not receive the call and went to voicemail. The incident broke fans’ hearts, as they were expecting to hear the superstar for the first time since their controversial exit from WWE in 2014.
The real reason for missing important phone calls from Johnson is now revealed. In an interview at the Starcast III incident, he clarified the reason for this hit and miss: “I was in an elevator, going downstairs to walk Larry on the floor.” As he was inside the lift with his dog, he could not receive any calls or messages due to very poor connections and network. He went on to add “… by the time it gets down, and I walk out I have 87 messages on my phone. I think someone is dead! I get number after number, like ‘your Answer the phone! ‘… “
He also revealed that he apologized for not being able to participate in the call back to “Rock” as he was inside an elevator. He was also aware of the warm atmosphere that enveloped the stage because of it: “Yes, I did hear; it was part of the text message I was getting.”
