Aishwarya Rai Bachchan started her acting career in Mani Ratnam’s Iruvar, which released in 1997. Following Iruvar, she starred in a handful of Tamil films including Jeans, Kandukondain Kandukondain, Endhiran, Guru, and Raavanan. In her recent visit to Chennai, she revealed that she recognizes Ajith from Kandukondein times.
In Rajiv Menon’s Kandukondein Kandukondein, she was paired opposite Abbas and Mammootty. The multi-starrer film also had Ajith and Tabu in the lead roles. The film remains one of the best Tamil movies and received critical acclaim as well.
She said that she remembers Ajith even though they didn’t have a lot of pictures together in the film. “He was so warm and an incredible professional. I’m so happy to see the kind of progress and love he is enjoying from his audiences. He deserves it. Though I didn’t have many scenes along with him, I met him on the sets. I also remember meeting his family during the making of Kandukondein. If we ever cross paths again, I’d love to congratulate him on his deserved success,” the Endhiran actress told The Hindu.
The Bollywood actress is gearing up for her next Tamil film, Ponniyin Selvan, which is once again helmed by legendary director Mani Ratnam. She is said to be playing the role of an antagonist in the movie, which will go on floors early next year.
In the interview given to film Companion Anupama Chopra, Aishwarya talked a lot about her mentor Mani Ratnam. He said, “What I am committed to, even if the gem has not formally announced it myself, I am working with it. The word is out, then I am doing it for that fact, and I agree I am always thrilled, excited, overwhelmed, courteous, and will be more than happy to work with my master, then, that is happening again, back in school.
