In 1971, the weapon smallpox was suddenly released from the lab who infected ten people, eventually killing three of them. When confidentiality is one of the Soviet invasions in its decade in the 1990s, the inhabitants of the island were evacuated, and the base was abandoned entirely until 1991. It became a ghost town. Many of the left containers were not properly destroyed or sealed and developed leaks in the past decade. Although many of the sites were corrupted since 2002, the island still scares people to live on it.
