Marvel Studios has a way of landing some top-notch actors. Whether the A-listers are attracted to the idea of playing a superhero, excited by unimaginable paychecks, or both, remains anyone’s guess. However, in the end, Kevin Feige often becomes his man (or woman). From Cate Blanchett’s Vaghela to Jake Gyllenhaal’s Mysterio, Mark Ruffalo Bruce Banner, and RDJ’s Iron Man, the MCU is filled to the brim with actors fans love and love. Nevertheless, an action hero, who would fit perfectly into the MCU landscape, is yet to make his superhero or supervillain appearance – Jason Statham.
While Jason Statham is not part of the MCU today, that his story may not last forever. Based on a phone conversation a while back and an “almost” situation, the actor is likely still on the studio’s radar. Still, want to step into a skintight suit for Statham to save the day or wreak havoc? Let’s dive into what we know so far about Statham and Marvel Studios’ minor, yet existent, relationships.
Jason Statham’s connection to Marvel World
As we noted on this cover (WGTC), a while back, Jason Statham was one of the idea actors for the villain Bullseye in Heavy Daredevil. However, Marvel President Kevin Feige has also noted that the actor has also been in the eye for one of his films.
When discussing his conversation with Jason Statham, the Miracle President has no idea what film he wanted to star in the actor (probably because they are hoping he will play in a narrative-related role at some point down the line). However, Feige revealed that Statham declined the offer due to a scheduling conflict. Feige Hobbs and Shaw remember the following from their conversation with star Statham:
I was in another meeting a few days later, and my cell phone rang. I didn’t recognize the number, but I answered it. And it was Jason Statham. He was saying, ‘Sorry it didn’t work out, maybe next time.’ He couldn’t have been more helpful!

Statham notes, “maybe next time,” meaning that while scheduling issues presented an issue this time around, if the opportunity rolls around once more, he can be tricked into accepting the offer. However, was Statham going to win? Is Statham interested in superhero movies, and would he be interested in hopping on board, or is he one of those actors who isn’t really in the genre?
Jason Statham on Superhero Films
While watching Statham take to the screen in an MCU installment would be one of the most spectacular moments in modern cinema, such a scene could remain a pipedream (if Statham’s opinions about the first scenario remain true today).
According to the Hollywood Reporter notes, Jason Statham once stated that he was not interested in doing a Marvel film, as he did not appreciate his reliance on green screens and visual effects. Statham explained:
I could take my grandma and put her in a cape, and they’ll put her on a green screen, and they’ll have stunt doubles come in and do all the action,” Statham replied. “Anybody can do it.
The Hollywood Reporter
While Statham’s words were undoubtedly blasphemous, perhaps after watching Downey’s performance in the Endgame, he made a change of heart. Marvel movies are not just about action; They are also about the characters. And, let’s be honest; if Statham joined, he would make one hell of a villain.
